For just £20 you get a season of stimulating evening talks by big names in gardening, and visits to iconic gardens in the summer months. Why not come and join us?

All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm in Oxenhope Community Centre.

Admission, unless otherwise noted, is £5 for non members, members free. Membership is £20 per year.

January 17th Anna Pavord An Evening with Anna Pavord
Anna Pavord is the gardening correspondent for The Independent and the author of a number of books on plants and gardening. She is an associate editor of Gardens Illustrated magazine, has written for The Observer for some twenty years, and contributed to Country Life, Country Living and Elle Decoration.
Anna is our keynote speaker for 2019. Admission will be £10 in advance for non members or £12.50 on the door. Book here.

February 21st Ben Preston The Garden at York Gate
Ben (the Cycling Gardener) recently (February 2018) started work as Head Gardener at Perennial’s York Gate Garden, Leeds. After studying Horticulture at Nottingham Trent University he had completed a HBGTP (Historic and Botanic Gardens Trainee Programme) placement at Audley End in 2014 and then, had worked as Head Gardener at Goldsborough Hall, Knaresborough, and a small private garden in North Yorkshire. The HBGTP programmes represent a truly exceptional opportunity for committed and enthusiastic horticulturists to progress their careers. By working alongside the professional teams within exceptional British gardens, trainees build a solid technical knowledge and acquire high-level practical skills.

March 21st Rosy Hardy Spring Flowering Perennials

There will be a plant sale
Rosy is the driving force behind the Hampshire-based Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants and over the past twenty years together with her husband Rob they have developed it into one of the UK's leading nurseries, stocking over 1,200 plant varieties. Winners of 21 prestigious Gold Medals at the Chelsea Flower Show as well as numerous medals at the other RHS flower shows. Rosy is the most decorated female exhibitor at Chelsea Flower Show to date.
April 18th Martin Ogle Martin is Head Gardener at Lowther Castle and he will be talking about the 20 year project that is in progress to restore the gardens, which date back to the 17th century. The project includes the 21st century contribution from world famous landscape designer, Dan Pearson, who has been involved with the restoration since 2004 in particular with the design of a new parterre garden.

Nobody knows the gardens at Lowther Castle like Martin Ogle, the head gardener. He knew the place as a boy and has been head gardener there since 2012. You can join Martin on a tour of the gardens and share his unique insight.
May 16th CLUB PLANT SALE Tea, Coffee and Cake

Please bring loose cash to buy your plants - £20 notes are not helpful because they will take all our float. Plants will NOT be sold until after the tables have been set out and announcements have been made. A drink and homemade cake will cost £2.50 and please come back for seconds for a small donation.

If you are donating plants please label them, so that we know what they are. To make cheap labels you can cut up a milk carton and write on it with a CD pen or other permanent marker.

June 27th (THURSDAY) Visit toYork Gate Garden, Leeds Coach from Oxenhope Station overflow carpark at 5.30pm (arriving at 6.30pm); please be in your seat by 5.15pm

This trip costs £21 including the coach, entrance to the garden and refreshments. Please sign up and pay immediately by cheque if you intend to go on the coach. It’s a 16-seater coach, but if we don’t get it full we may have to cancel, otherwise we will make a loss on the coach.

For those of you who are travelling independently, you pay your own admission of £6 plus any refreshments, to York Gate staff. Directions can be found here.

July 18th (THURSDAY) Visit to Dent Hall Gardens, Trawden Make your own way. Arrive at the Hall in time for a 2.30 pm prompt start to the visit.

August 31st (SATURDAY) Visit to Lowther Castle Gardens

This trip costs £20 for the coach only. Please pay your own admission and refreshments when you get there. If you have an RHS card please take it to claim your discount.

We need to know immediately if you intend to go on this trip. The coach leaves Oxenhope at 8.30am so please be in your seat by 8.15am.

September 19th Bridget Marshall NGS, what it's all about & Yorkshire Gardens
Bridget is the County Organiser of 'National Open Garden Scheme' (NGS).
In 2015 Bridget was awarded the BEM for services to charitable fundraising. She was the Yorkshire County Organiser for the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) and in 2013 the Yorkshire NGS raised £134,000 for nursing and caring charities, with £80,000 of it coming from the 75 gardens under her wing.
October 17th Tony Russell  
Tony is a former Head Forester of Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire, one of the finest collections of tree and shrubs in the temperate world. He is now widely regarded as one of Britain's leading authorities on trees and shrubs.
He has presented many gardening, horticultural and countryside programmes for both TV and radio and regularly writes for several magazines and newspapers.
He is the author of eighteen books and is also editor of the annual publication ‘Great Gardens to Visit’.
